When in its totality, the moon was an eerie reddish color that permeated the night sky. The star above (Saturn) and the one to the side seemed to be assisting the moon in her starring moment.

The moon has always been a source of awe, mysticism, comfort, mystery, and magic. How many of us have gazed at her in wonderment. She controls the tides and when her reflection is cast on the waters it has a wonderful name: Moonglade.

I, for one, have no need to travel to her and explore. No, for me the beauty is in the unknown. Our Lunar Goddess. She rises from the depths to light our way through the dark, then rests peacefully in the distance...but always watchful of her children.

cats & clothes

This morning while I was putting clothes on, my cats were patiently waiting and watching. I've always thought they must think this such an odd custom. It would be like them unzipping their fur and hanging it over the back of the chair overnight, then stepping into it and zipping it back up in the morning. What odd creatures we humans are!!! Have you ever noticed how often our animals watch the things we do?? Getting in the shower, cooking, sitting at the computer, watching tv, getting into a large machine most days and driving off to points unknown.

All the while, they are observing. So patient with us.

I believe they know things we have long since forgotten.

I want to remember those things.

Spring Fever

I'm spending some time trying to figure out which plants I'd like to start by next month in the flower containers. Something that will attract butterflies, feed hummingbirds, and especially bees... since they are rapidly and alarmingly disappearing from our landscape. With the unusual warmth, they are less interested in the unsalted peanuts they usually embrace with gusto. No...today they are gathering, talking and vying for positions with the redtail hawk who is gliding over the house and then staking out a particular tree. The same one, in fact, where I got a great photo last summer. This thaw makes everyone (including me!) excited for the promise of spring.

By the way, there are very interesting tracks that I see in the snow from overnight but can't explain.
